Go ahead, curse the darkness

I'm thinking of having this line by the late Richard John Neuhaus translated into Latin and added to the family crest: "And yes, I know that it is better to light a candle than to curse the darkness. But sometimes it is necessary to curse the darkness as well, just to prevent our getting used to it."

adite, maledici tenebris

I just realized I left off the plural ending of the second imperative! It should be "maledicite". Oops. (insert sheepish face here)

My own personal curmudgeon did just that last (Good) Friday: Death is the enemy. People don't go to funerals to have a good time. I recall the many times I've heard someone speak of a loved one's (usually "assisted") death as "a good death." The only good thing about death is that it could not hold our Lord. Hallelujah! He is risen!!
